ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
I would like to make the Invisible Visible. The state of mood, the
feeling which comes from inside and returns back here..
This is the Silense for the scream of my soul, the flash of the perception, the
soul mirror when you meet yourself.
Where the stake is the eternal human values. And that is when the miracle
happens.. You are alone, but you are not lonely, the contact is here - the
secret of emotions - the meeting of kindred spirits.
That is what I wish to do till the end of my life!
Éva Tamás is a well-known Hungarian-born ceramic artist living in Lithuania. The artistic, modern, stylish plasticity of her authentic porcelain compositions carries notable signs of perfection. In striving to master the mystery of the porcelain clay matter, Tamás searches for refinement via combustion by fire. Her art reveals a special attention, patience, and
"a great love and respect for this material". The delicate porcelain works are like
"life, where every step is extremely important. A tiny mistake which emerges during the firing can turn all your work into smithereens." That is the feeling that has accompanied her since 1981, when the white earthenware at the Kaunas Jiesia factory first felt the warmth of her hands – when she became entranced by the elegance, plasticity, soft velvet matt shades and silky gleaming white tones of its porcelain wares.
Éva Tamás has been participating in international ceramic symposia in the Baltic States and
Hungary since 1977. She is acquainted not only with the traditional culture of European
porcelain, but also with the modern, avant-garde ("underground") plasticity of ceramics. Her
creative experience, erudition and hard work have brought welcome results in the form of
awards at international exhibitions, and scholarships at the prestigious International Ceramic
Studio in Kecskemét (Hungary). The particularly productive years (1995 - 1999) spent in Kecskemét included her first-time experience of working with Limoges porcelain clay.
The plasticity of the porcelain, a delicate use of sculpture, painting and graphics, is the most
significant element in Éva Tamás' works. A world of consonant forms and musical lines
appears in a rhythm of motion, in a replay of lines and shining colours. Her motivation for
creating unusual forms came from the idea that one can use Limoges porcelain clay not only
for utilitarian articles, but also for unique sculptural compositions epitomising human
existential values and the purport of everyday life. The beauty of Tamás' handmade porcelain
works, revealed in the silent stillness of daylight, mirrors her soul. The image of silence, a
mystery - like the porcelain material itself - stimulates the creative imagination of the artist.
It is not by chance that the motif of silence, a symbol of the drama of human loneliness,
predominates in the cycles of her abstract forms. An impression of spiritual nobility and inner
peace is emphasised by subtle incrustations of gold and platinum, richly textured finishes,
and sensitive paintings on the surfaces of works entitled Pyramids for Every Day,
Alone, and Silence.
